Parliament Speaker Nabih Berri stressed the extreme importance of the presence of UNIFIL forces  in southern Lebanon, and the role assigned to them, both their primary role in maintaining security in the south, and supporting the Lebanese army in spreading across the entire territory up to the international border in accordance with the operative part of Resolution 1701.” He pointed out that the greatest sin, and the greatest crime committed against the South, was ending the period of UNIFIL’s mandate in the South, as this termination means undermining Resolution 1701, the need at this stage to fully implement its provisions and for UNIFIL to continue its tasks is growing. Berri warned of Israel's intentions and the dangers of what it is doing in the south, "particularly its intense attacks on towns and villages and their civilian and residential neighborhoods, and the intense bombings of villages in the south, which not only completely destroy their urban structure and destroy life in them, but also create very dangerous cracks and disintegrations in their foundations."
